Kumar(Rishi Kapoor) son of Rana Uady Singh returns home after a long period. Knowing that he is good artist, his friend Neha insists that he sketch her portrait. He works on it but the end result is devastating as he painted someone elses face. A girl Reshma(Sridevi) a banjaran, he has never seen before. Reshma is haunted by a dream of mystery man which she sees every full moon since she was a child.

In one of the village gatherings, Kumar finds the girl of his painting and Reshma sees in Kumar the man of her dreams. They keep meeting eventually and fall in love. The mystery deepens when they see Reshmas potrait in an ancient haveli. Both their families are against their relation so they refuse once again in the old haveli and Thakur Baba the owner welcomes them but their families arrive intending to kill them. Thakur Baba holds them back, narrating them the mystery which happened 50 years back.
