SYNOPSIS I Ajay (Sunil Dutt), the only son and heir of a rich, traditional Thakur family, loved Asha (Asha Parekh), the sister of Dr. Chibber. And Ajay’s mother also accepted her, wholeheartedly. Ajay’s mother felt that not only would Asha take up the responsibilities of running the huge household, but would also prove an heir to the vast fortunes of the family. Seven years after the marriage, Asha was childless, and Ajay’s mother dreams were about to be shattered. And to further add to the misery, Asha was blinded in an accident with a firecracker, totally darkening her world. Ajay’s mother was compelled to look for another wife for him, she could not see her family dying out for the lack of an heir. Ajays mother welcomes the bride to their house. Seven years of martial bliss brought in its wake everything except the much wanted child. During their seventh Diwali celebration a huge cracker explodes in Ashas face. Asha having lost her sight goes into depression. The mother-in-law not satisfied with the present state that Asha is in, plans with wily Munim to send Ajay to stay with Sandhya, a prospective bride. Meanwhile Asha is convinced to leave the house for Ajays sake never to return. Will Sandhya too fall into Ajays mothers trap, as Asha had?
