This is a story of Lucknow not very long ago-even then it had the same tradition of high and noble discipline etiquette and culture of specially Lucknowi taste. Nawab Sultan Miyan though called Nawab, but had the Calibre of a Wasiqedar getting wasiqa or pension as a Nawab, of a very meargre sum. Sultan Miyan had a very beautiful daughter named Zeenat Jahan Begum. She had a soft feeling for Nawab Yusuf, who was a friend of her talent. But a big Nawab Sikandar Mirza once had a glimpse of the beauty that was Zeenat Jahan Begum. It refgected on his heart and he sent a message to Sultan miyan to give hand of Zeenat Jahan Begum to him. Sultan Miyan readily accepted it. But due to the flow of incidents both Zeenat and Yususf thought this marriage to be of their own and Zeenat was so happy as if she has go everything she desired. But only at the time of marriage when the bridegroom came, Zeenat came to know that her would be husband is Nawab Sikandar Mirza and not Yusuf, who was sent away by his Mamu to Allahabad only to avoid this marriage. Zeenat run away to see Yusuf and the marriage was performed. And when Doli of Bride reached at Sikandar’s haveli he was shocked to find it empty. Only timely wisdom of his sister Suraiya saved the situation and it was announced that Begum of Nawab can not be seen by anyone due to indisposition and she was taken to an inner room of the house though there was no Bahu Begum as such in the house. Zeenat who could not find Yususf anywhere came back to her fathjer who threw her out of his house, then to Siandar Mirza who refused to recognise her before all – and then finally she found asylum in a house of a singer prostitute. And then suddenly one day Zeenat found herself as “BAHU BEGUM” of Nawab Sikandar Mirza she remained there on request of Sikandar Mirza but just in another form her inner and outer appearance was divided. Could Zeenat, Yusuf and Sikandar Mirza reach to their goals is the only great question which makes climax of this unusaual theme. |
